5 Waterfalls to visit near Bhubaneswar

Deojhar

Recognized by Odisha Tourism, it is present in the Cuttack district of Odisha. The waterfall is surrounded by lush vegetation which gives a picturesque view and a great picnic spot. At the top of this waterfall, there’s a cave called, Badeidhar. It is located in Narasinghpur block, 95kms away from Cuttack. It is one of the hidden gems of Odisha known to very few people.

Gundichaghagi

When sunlight falls on this beautiful 80 ft waterfall, it gives an enchanting glowing view. It is situated 12kms from Ghatagaon, Keonjhar, famous for Maa Tarini Temple. It is named after squirrel or Gunduchi (local name) since it has three water streams falling resembling squirrel’s back.


Best time to visit - October to March

Khandadhar (Keonjhar)

With a height of around 500ft, this vast waterfall surrounded by mountain ranges, forests, and a straight stream of water gives it a sword-like view. Hence the name Khandadhar. It is situated 50kms from Keonjhar district. A Shiva temple present there witnesses numerous visitors during Shiv Ratri. Keonjhar & Sundargarh districts have their own Khandadhar waterfalls which sometimes creates confusion to visitors.

Badaghagara & Sanaghagara

Badaghagara is a perennial and charismatic waterfall that is one of the most popular waterfalls of Odisha. Surrounded by mountains and dense forests, this bewitching view attracts lots of travelers. Sanaghagara waterfall is an eco-tourist spot, although smaller than Badaghagara but gives numerous fun activities like sightseeing of tribal museum, children’s park, boating, and trekking.


Apart from the waterfall, other sightseeing places are dams constructed over River Ghagara, temples like Baladevjew Temple, Shiva Temple, and Siddha Matha. It is situated in Keonjhar district of Odisha.

Barehipani

Since Barehipani waterfall shares its land with Simlipal National Park, this place is a paradise for wildlife lovers. Being second highest waterfall in India and the highest waterfall in Odisha at 1309ft, every year it witnesses a good number of visitors. It is situated in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
